Family of executed SA photographer Anton Hammerl (April 5 2011, Libya) hopeful remains will be identified
The Saturday Star reports on 30 Junie 2013 that the family of Anton Hammerl, the photographer who was executed in April 2011 in Libya, will soon be able to have his remains identified and returned home.
A DNA-laboratory run by the international commission for missing persons in Sarajewo is attempting to identify thousands of people who have disappeared in the Libian conflicts over the years.
More than 100 remains have already been identified positively since the overthrow of the Muammar Gaddafi government.
The South African photographer was executed on 5 April 2011 when he and three journalists were attacked by Gaddafi troops.
Initially it was believed that he was still alive and possibly held captive - however eyewitnesses have confirmed that he was shot dead.
However his body was never found.
